Exploring fertility and womanhood, and thinking about a relationship to the planet
This is the first time I began to use death notices from the newspapers in the collages. It was an accident: I used newspaper, noticed a pattern, and noticed it was with death notices, so i began to seek them out for their unique pattern quality. This was a fitting discovery for the theme of exploring fertility and womanhood, and thinking about a relationship to the planet, with regard to mortality. This is part of the series "Self Portraits in Reds," exploring the relationship of personal existence to the color red and explores the various meanings attached to the color red in our culture. Red is often interpreted as a color of anger and violence. This is a re-interpretation of meaning: Red as passion, as spirituality, as love, as personal power, as blood, and as a life-giving-force.
